The Challenge

The Center for Health Law and Policy Innovation (CHLPI) consists of two legal clinics: the Health Law and Policy Clinic (HLPC) and the Food Law and Policy Clinic (FLPC). They needed a new website that added clarity around these two initiatives and gave a far better user experience for students, funders, and media looking for information and resources. The site had a robust online library of publications, news, and legal documents that was hard to navigate and needed to be carefully overhauled. The overall visual branding of the website, within the Harvard Law School system, also needed to be addressed.

The Solution

We worked through a thorough discovery phase with program directors and stakeholders, where we created an entirely new navigation and structure for the site geared towards the variety of different user journeys for target audiences. We organized the resource library by creating custom post types for the variety of different resources and carefully moved the existing content into these new directories. Not only were we able to drastically improve the design and user experience of the site, but we were also able to create a system for CHLPI to be able to manage a large amount of content in a much more streamlined way.

Creating a Plan

We worked with CHLPI to identify and clearly define their primary audiences during the discovery phase: students, policymakers, funders, and media. We then determined the highest-priority content for each of these audiences. We helped identify user journeys and created a solid plan for content implementation and migration. We ensured, before we began any design, that we had a solution for every pain point CHLPI was experiencing on their current site and developed a streamlined system and production schedule to create the new site.

The Ace Creative team was strategic, organized, and very skilled throughout the design and development process. They were able to create a clear and streamlined website to showcase our complex work. They truly listened to and understood our needs and challenges coming from a large academic and non-profit institution. We highly recommend this team!

Content Strategy

CHLPI already had years of content but the content was scattered and buried within hard-to-reach areas of the site.  We wanted to make sure that the new site maximized views of that same content while also creating a fresh experience for this dynamic and prolific academic center. We started by creating three main areas for content: resources, projects, and news. We then broke each of these new areas into logical categories to help keep everything organized. This type of careful content strategy helps create a far better user experience for audiences while also creating a much easier back-end system for the client to manage moving forward.

Customized Forms

We created a conditional contact form to help dramatically streamline incoming inquiries from media, students, or others through the website. We helped CHLPI use the target audiences to determine how users could easily direct entries to the correct staff or faculty at the organization.
